MUKO DANIEL (DAN) BRUCE Of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Sewickely, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 18, 2013 while in the company of his loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary "Babe" (Kachurik) Muko and a brother, Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Diana (White) Muko; father, Herman and wife, Josephine (Marlinga) Muko; sister-in-law, Sharon Jamison; sister, Cindy (Frank) Bailey; brother, Ron (Sharon) Muko; sister, Amy (Michael) Minnock; stepchildren; step-grandchild, Sophia; uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that loved him dearly. Born in New Kensington, PA on August 1, 1958, he was proud to be the grandson of coal miners. Dan's family moved to Sewickley, and at a young age developed his natural inclination for art. He was a graduate of Quaker Valley High School and Columbus College of Art and Design. Dan was employed by Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio as a senior Graphic Designer. He produced artwork for many private individuals, commercial and government entities. N.A.S.A. was one of many that valued his expertise, resulting in his being commissioned to illustrate spaceships and missions of the space agency. He illustrated programs and a monthly magazine to improve workers and hygiene on the job and at home. He was awarded many awards, to name a few seven STC, four IABC, and International Association of Business Communicators, N.A.S.A. project, three Battelle project team awards, six coins and two pins on various defense contracts. Dan is also renowned in Columbus, Ohio, and will live on in the hearts of all Buckeye fans, for the huge mural that is a focal point and welcomes all visitors to the Ohio Stadium at Ohio State University. He was dynamic and successful in his professional career and also in his personal life. Dan had a zest for life and was always the center of the party. His creativity was not limited to his artwork - it carried over in how he lived his life, and his interactions with friends, family and complete strangers. He was ardent and vocal in his support of the Pittsburgh Steelers - at all times! A talented athlete, Dan competed well in baseball and softball during his youth. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at RICHARD D. COLE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 328 Beaver Street, Sewickley, PA 15143.
