ROSE CHARLES W., Jr. “ BILL” On January 19, 2014, Charles W. Rose, Jr. “Bill,” passed after a fight with pancreatic cancer. He was the oldest son of the late Charles W. Rose, Sr. (Violet McWilliams); and the son-in-law of the late James I. Filice (Santa Bria). He was the loving husband of Joyce J. Rose (Filice) for over 51+ years. He was born in August 1942 and the father of James (Sallie Grabb), Angela Sciarretti (John) and John W. (Meredith Dudenas). His grandchildren are William, Adrienne, Sarah, Sophia, Raymond, Johnny, and Jackson. Bill is survived by brothers and sisters, Jeanne (Montgomery) (friend, John), Melvin (Hazel), Charlene Krofeck, Dale (Carole), and Howard (Becky); his brothers and sisters-in-law are Anthony (Joy), Marion Macri (Jack), Janice Sullivan, and Grace Filice (friend, Steve). He is survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Bill began his career in the U.S. Marines in August 1959. He rose from Private through Master Sergeant and was commissioned and retired as a Captain in October 1979. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, along with numerous campaign medals. Tours of duty included Parris Island (SC), Camp Geiger (NC), Camp Lejeune (NC), Albany (GA), Vietnam, Okinawa, Japan, Philadelphia (PA), Marine Corps headquarters Arlington (VA), Marine Barracks Portsmouth (VA). Upon his retirement, he worked for US Steel, McKeesport, for five years (79-84) as a Turn Foreman and General Foreman. In December 1984, Bill began work with the Defense Contract Management Agency as a Nuclear Auditor-Inspector until he retired 20+ years later in 2006. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with Military honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, will follow.
