BRENES GILBERT, MD 78, of Cheswick, PA on July 2, 2013. A dedicated physician for more than 40 years, he served as Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Program at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center from 1976-2005. Beginning in 2006, he moved to UPMC Mercy Institute of Rehabilitation where he continued to treat patients. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Brenes was the recipient of numerous awards, active in clinical research and a contributor to medical journals. He was an active supporter and board member of the HOPE Network, a non-profit organization that promotes community integration of people with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions through sports and recreation programs and services. The youngest of ten siblings; he is survived by wife, Diane Erdelack Brenes; stepchildren, Leslie and Kevin Erdelack; he is the father through a previous marriage (Grace Brenes) to Ivan (Sayumi) Brenes of Kobe, Japan, and Kathia (Charles) Kennedy of Pittsburgh, PA; proud grandfather of Gracie and Alex Kennedy, and Nina and Ami Brenes.
