SURMA VICTOR B. Of Upper St. Clair and New York City, passed away earlier this year in Manhattan. Born July 20, 1983, son of Dr. Victor J. and Kathy (Keim) Surma; brother and best friend of Katie Surma; loving grandson of Virginia Surma, Robert and Naomi Keim; also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. Victor graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in 2002 and Penn State University in 2006, having played football at both. He was an outstanding mogul skier who, at age 12, was invited to participate in the Olympic Development Program at Lake Placid, NY. After college, Victor had a successful modeling career, during which he was featured on magazine covers and participated in high fashion clothing campaigns. He was an orthopedic sales representative, and in 2012 named National Rookie of the Year. One of Victor's greatest passions was fly fishing, a skill which, in his hands, became an art form and was one of the many activities he enjoyed with his father, Vic and sister, Katie. He loved all foods, but most of all, his Mom's cooking. Victor lived life by his own rules, sharing wisdom when sought out by others; compassion through his volunteer work with autistic adults; generosity in aiding the underdog; but most importantly, Victor was strong, loyal and loving, especially towards his family. Victor never blended into the crowd, but rather always stood out with a powerful commanding presence, witty sense of humor and uniquely special personality. The bright light of Victor's smile may cast a long shadow in his passing, but the memory will live on in all those lives he touched. In memory of him, a memorial fund is being established to help underprivileged youth experience the great outdoors. If desired, memorials may be made to the Victor B. Surma Memorial Fund, in care of Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. www.laughlinfuneralhome.com Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
