BEMBRY THOMAS EDWARD TOM Age 76, of Beatty St., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home on March 25, 2014. Thomas was born September 12, 1936, in Edenton, North Carolina, to the late Clarence J. Bembry and Mary Elizabeth Roberts. He was married to Mary Alice Diggs (divorced) of Waynesboro, Virginia, and they made their home in Atlantic City, New Jersey before relocating to Pleasantville, New Jersey. While in New Jersey, Tom was an employee of the Kramer Beverage Company, he was a driver for the Mutual Cab Company, and was a Member of Asbury United Methodist Church and sang bass on their choir. Tom's other cities of residences were Breezewood, Pennsylvania, Maple Shade, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., before making his permanent home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a faithful employee of the Greyhound Bus Company until he retired. He was a former member of the New Jerusalem Church of Pittsburgh, and thoroughly enjoyed singing in the African American Male Chorus under the direction of Mr. Clifford Roberts. Tom was a proud and active member of the NAACP and registered and rallied many for the Presidential Elections of 2008. He earned a certificate as a Certified Furniture Refinisher, and enjoyed traveling, bowling, billiards, and other activities. Tom's life was full of learning new experiences. He loved his children and grandchildren, and cherished his family and friends. He was dependable, kind, humble, and one of the most organized persons you would ever meet, and a very gentle soul. Thomas is survived by Mary Bembry of Whiting, New Jersey; four children, Barry Bembry of Greenacres, Florida, Warren Bembry of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Lisa Bembry of Mays Landing, New Jersey, and Janel Bembry of Galloway Township, New Jersey; and five grandchildren, Arlene, David, Diamond, Jewel, and Jaden. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at WHITE MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 7204 Thomas Blvd. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
