SCHAAL THOMAS C., RN Ph.D. Passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on August 21, 2013. He grew up on New York's Long Island. He loved the sea and summers at his home on Martha's Vineyard. His education brought him to the University of Pittsburgh in 1978, where he earned a Ph.D. in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. He became a professor of Nursing and mentor to students, and a counselor and mentor to his patients. He was dedicated to his family and was a wonderful husband, father and Grampy Doc. He was a deeply spiritual, humorous and kind man. Dr. Schaal is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 45 years, Patsy; his loving son, Robert Schaal and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mt. Lebanon; his loving son, Michael and his wife, Melissa, of McDonald; three special grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, and Molly; a sister, Celia Rees, and brother, Dean Schaal, both of Long Island; and many family and friends from coast to coast. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the WARCHOL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333), where a service will be held in celebration of his life on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt.
