
CORBETT RICHARD ALLEN 62, of Bluffton, South Carolina, formerly of Butler, died last Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Memorial University Health Hospital in Savannah, GA, following a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born April 29, 1951, in Butler, the son of the late Franklin Corbett and the late Virginia Sherwin Corbett. Rick graduated from Karns City High School in 1969. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Physical Therapy. Following two years of employment at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, and five years at Butler Memorial Hospital, Rick founded Butler Physical Therapy in 1981. For 28 years, Rick combined his passion for helping others in need with his expertise in physical therapy to assist the injured and elderly, touching thousands of lives in Butler and the surrounding communities. Upon moving to South Carolina in 2009, Rick along with his wife Sue, went on to found Corbett Physical Therapy in Bluffton, South Carolina, thus fulfilling their dream of running a physical therapy practice together in their new community, Hampton Hall. Rick's impact in the neighborhood was immediately felt, and patients fell in love with his gentle approach towards healing the body, soft-spoken mannerisms, and Godly heart of compassion. Rick was a member of Community Alliance Church of Butler, PA and also Butler Country Club. He was a member of Business Networking International in Bluffton, SC. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at church. He cherished the most basic things in life, spending time with his wife and family, teaching life lessons to his children, and exemplifying his faith each day through the way he treated others. Rick was an avid golfer, and his favorite partners were his wife, Sue; and son, Bryan. He enjoyed playing his guitar, music and singing with his daughter, Melanie, and watching Steeler games with daughter, Megan. He was fond of nearly all sports and competition, playing basketball and baseball in high school, baseball in college, and competitive softball in his later years. Truly, Rick was known first and foremost as a Godly, loving husband to his wife of 37 years and a loving father to his three children. Rick is survived by his wife, Susan Corbett of Bluffton, SC; three children, Melanie (Ron) Bullman of Charleston, SC, Bryan Corbett of Chicago, IL, and Megan (Aaron) Romeo of Charlotte, NC; one grandchild, Brennan Josiah Romeo of Charlotte, NC; one brother, James (Janet) Corbett of Grove City, three sisters, Rita (Dennis) Hillwig of Chambersburg, PA, Diane (Thomas) Standish of Emlenton, PA, Dawn (Richard) Helfrich of Karns City, PA; also survived by a number of nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by his sister, Lana Tidwell. Friends will be received at THOMPSON - MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, PA with Pastor Dennis Krajacic of Community Alliance Church, officiating.
