ROLFSMEYER PEGGY L. Peggy (Ferson) Rolfsmeyer of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, died at home on Saturday, December 28, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Margaret (Morris) and James Ferson of Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania. Peggy grew up in a suburb south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Clarion State College. She attended the University of Nebraska and ultimately received a MEd in Counselor Education from the University of Pittsburgh. In her professional career she taught in several elementary schools in Whitehall, PA and in Lincoln, NE, provided tutoring services while raising her children, worked as a therapist and counselor in both a community mental health facility and at a girls group home in the Pittsburgh area, taught graduate education courses for Performance Learning Systems in affiliation with a number of different colleges and universities in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Maryland and, prior to retirement, she served on the faculty of Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ, where she taught various courses in teacher education and supervised student teachers. Peggy had a life-long passion for the teaching, guiding and development of children, youth and young adults. However, she always considered her most important role to be that of a faithful and loving wife to Gerald Jerry, as well as a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Randall Randy of Pittsburgh, PA, and Michael Mike of Ferndale, MI and to Mike's wife, Kristen, the daughter of Peggy's heart. Peggy loved spending time with family and friends. She remained active in various churches and community activities as she and Jerry moved around the country, most recently at St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church, the Ginger Book Club and the Bunko Belles, all in Pawleys Island. She also enjoyed attending lectures at the Scholar's Forum in Georgetown as well as The Moveable Feast in Pawleys Island. She was an avid reader and a devotee of aerobic exercise and utilized Curves and her community swimming pool to that end. In addition to her husband of 45 years and her children, she leaves behind her only sibling, her sister Nancy of Pawleys Island, a constant and loving friend and confidante, as well as her niece, Heather of Kennesaw, GA; her nephew, Seth of Pawleys Island; extended family members throughout the United States and many dear friends in the Carolinas, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul's Waccamaw UMC but there will be no burial service as Peggy and Jerry have requested that their cremains be scattered at sea together. In lieu of flowers or donations, Peggy requested that you perform a random act of kindness and remember her with a smile as you do so. Should you choose to make a donation, please do so in support of the Children and Youth Ministry Programs at St. Paul's Waccamaw UMC. An online guestbook is available at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com/obituaries. GOLDFINCH FUNERAL HOME, BEACH CHAPEL is in charge of the arrangements. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
